What Is a Cornicello?
The Cornicello, also known as the cornetto, corno or Italian horn, is a small horn-shaped charm that originated in Southern Italy, especially around Naples. Traditionally it's twisted, curved and bright red, and was often carved from red coral. For generations, Italian families have worn it as a lucky charm and passed it down as a keepsake. Because of its curved shape and bright red colour, the Cornicello is often mistaken for, or lovingly called, a chilli pepper charm. In fact, the chilli pepper (peperoncino) is also a symbol of luck and protection in Southern Italy, so it's no wonder the two are so often linked.
